Pediatricians are doctors who manage medical conditions affecting infants, children, and young people. They work with other health care professionals to promote healthy lifestyles for all ages of children.
Pediatricians can be general practitioners or specialize in a particular field such as cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and nephrology.
Pediatricians have three main areas of focus: physical, mental, and social health. A well-rounded pediatrician will screen for common diseases, educate their patient on healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and establish a good relationship with the family to provide emotional support during difficult situations. The goal is always to deliver quality care while also providing reassurance that your child is in capable hands.
Attempts made at helping or treating any medical condition affecting children too old for treatment by dentists (such as cavities) but still young enough to require specialized medical attention beyond what can be provided by general practitioners are usually handled by this type of doctor.
